An eight-mile chase that began with reports of gunfire near a school ended in a crash in Dunstable, and the suspects are still at large. Bedfordshire Police were called to Grebe Drive in Leighton Buzzard shortly before 3.30pm on Wednesday after reports of a firearm being discharged.
An automobile believed to be involved in the incident was spotted by officers and pursued for approximately eight miles (12.8 km), having refused to stop when ordered to do so by the police. At the moment, no information on the causes of the gunfire has been provided by law enforcement officers.
As a precautionary measure, a local lower school was placed on lockdown. No school was mentioned in the press release by the Bedfordshire Police. However, the Daily Express reports that Greenleas School is located near the location.
On their website, Greenleas said that the school will resume its normal operation on Thursday, thanking everyone for “composure and calmness”.
The pursuit ended with the car crashing on Porz Avenue in Dunstable into another car. A man was slightly injured. The offenders managed to escape on foot.
The road was closed between Boscombe Way and the Lovatt Road roundabout while emergency services dealt with the collision. If you drive that route, check for diversions.
Officers say they will stay in the area. The Express also reported extra scene guards on Grebe Drive and along the A505, which usually signals a continuing search and evidence work.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bedfordshire Police.
