Shiv Kapur Fires Sensational 10-Under 62 to Equal Al Hamra Course Record at IGPL Chennai.
Ras Al Khaimah(News Desk):: Indian golf star Shiv Kapur produced a spectacular opening round at the IGPL Chennai tournament in Ras Al Khaimah, carding a sensational 10-under-par 62 at Al Hamra Golf Club, including a remarkable hole-in-one on the 15th hole.
Kapur’s flawless, bogey-free round featured eight birdies and an ace on the par-3 15th. A perfectly struck five-iron landed just right of the flag before rolling into the cup, completing a memorable round of scoring.
The 62 was Kapur’s best score in an official IGPL event and also equalled the Al Hamra Golf Club course record. He now joins DP World Tour stars Thorbjørn Olesen, Callum Shinkwin, Manuel Elvira and Oliver Bekker on the prestigious course-record list.
Shinkwin was the first to record a 62 at Al Hamra during the 2024 Ras Al Khaimah Championship, with Elvira matching the mark the following day. Olesen subsequently posted another 62, while Bekker had previously established the record with the same score during the 2022 Ras Al Khaimah Classic.
Speaking after his round, Kapur said his performance was built on consistency from tee to green and strong putting.
“The round was solid. I think no real mistakes, very solid from tee to green, holed all the putts that I needed to.”
Reflecting on his hole-in-one, he added:“Obviously, the icing on the cake was when I had a perfect 5-iron on the 15th hole, landed just right of the flag and rolled in perfectly.”
The ace moved Kapur to 10-under par, giving him a four-shot lead at the end of the opening day.
Kapur’s outstanding performance provided a spectacular start to the IGPL Chennai tournament and further enhanced Al Hamra Golf Club’s reputation as a venue capable of producing exceptional scores from leading professional golfers.
His scorecard will now join the collection of historic course-record scorecards displayed in the club’s lobby, marking Kapur’s sensational 62 as another memorable chapter in the history of Al Hamra Golf Club and the IGPL.
