AbuDhabi(News Desk)::: The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour, has announced that European Ryder Cup stars Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry will compete in the upcoming edition, scheduled to take place from November 6 to 9 at Yas Links on Yas Island, as part of the DP World Tour Finals.
The two stars will be joined by Masters champion and four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy, and a host of 2025 Ryder Cup stars, including Ludvig Öberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Hoegaard, Robert McIntyre, and vice-captain Alex Noren, at the start of the DP World Tour Qualifier in the UAE.
World No. 5 Tommy Fleetwood, winner of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2017 and 2018, enters this year’s competition in high spirits after his triumph at the DP World India Championship last week. He produced an impressive final round of 65 to secure the title by two shots over Japan’s Keita Nakajima, securing his eighth DP World Tour title.
The 34-year-old Fleetwood continues his exceptional season, achieving his first victory in the US PGA Championship at the Tour Finals in August, where he also won the FedEx Cup, becoming only the second English player in history to achieve this feat after Justin Rose.
Fleetwood was also one of the stars of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, playing a crucial role in Europe’s historic 15-13 victory over the United States, their first away victory since 2012. Fleetwood won four of his five matches, finishing the week as the all-time leading scorer.
Fleetwood, a Dubai resident since 2022, said: “Playing in my second home, the UAE, is always special, and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is one of the tournaments I look forward to every year. The Yas Links course is beautifully designed and has a special atmosphere, and I have fond memories there. Starting the DP World Tour Qualifier in front of family and friends gives me extra motivation to finish the season on a high note.”
Ireland’s Shane Lowry experienced a touching moment during the 2025 Ryder Cup, helping decide the outcome and giving Team Europe the chance to retain the trophy in the final singles round.
Lowry is one of the most prominent names to have achieved remarkable success in the UAE, having won the 2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, claiming the Falcon Cup. This victory marked the beginning of one of the best years of his career, following his subsequent victory in The Open at Royal Portrush. Lowry returns to the tournament after participating in Luke Donald’s historic European lineup, where the team’s eligible players automatically qualify alongside the top 70 in the Race to Dubai standings.
“Abu Dhabi has always been a great destination for golf lovers, and I’m excited to be returning to Yas Links in the coming weeks,” said Lawrie. “The DP World Tour Qualifier is always an exciting finale to our season, and I’m looking forward to competing against the world’s elite. I’ll be doing everything I can to finish the year on a strong note.”
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour, and serves as the opening qualifying round of the season-ending series, leading up to the DP World Tour Finals in Dubai, where the Race to Dubai champion is crowned.
The top 70 players in the rankings will participate in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, with the top 50 players qualifying for the final tournament in Dubai the following week.
