Running across weekends throughout July, these gallery-based games, nature observation activities, and interactive discovery experiences deepen visitors’ observation skills and connection to local ecosystems.
NATURE’S FAMILIES: FAMILIES OF UAE
In celebration of the Year of the Family in the UAE, this two-stage discovery game invites families to explore the wildlife of the Emirates together. Receive a character card featuring a real species from Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi’s collection, find the visitor holding your matching card from the same biological family, then explore the museum together to find all the family specimens on display. With 53 species across 26 biological families, every visit tells a different story. A joyful, movement-based game connecting families to the natural heritage of the UAE, because knowing the biodiversity that shares our landscape is the first step toward protecting it.

ZOOM IN / ZOOM OUT: DECODING NATURE
Take a closer look at nature through the eyes of a scientist. Explore the gallery by observing one small detail (zoom in) and connecting it to a bigger story (zoom out): how animals survive, what they eat, or where they live. Decode how organisms communicate without words by interpreting colours, patterns, and body features as signals for survival, whether warning, hiding, or attracting. By connecting these tiny details to bigger survival stories, you’ll discover nature as an interconnected whole worth protecting.

EXPLORER’S FIELD JOURNAL
Become a nature explorer and document discoveries like a scientist. Create your own nature-inspired field journal with guided prompts connected to the galleries, using it to observe, record, and reflect on the natural world. Inspired by how scientists document discoveries, this activity builds the foundation for conservation: you can’t protect what you don’t notice, and you can’t act without evidence.
  • Date: Weekends, 1– 31 July 2026
  • Time: 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM
  • Location: Gallery Corridor
  • Age: Ages 7+

SURVIVE THE DESERT
Put your survival skills to the test in a series of desert challenges. Face environmental obstacles such as extreme heat, lack of water, and predators, then choose the most effective adaptations, from nocturnal behaviour and burrowing to fat storage, to survive. As you tackle each challenge, you’ll discover how physical and behavioural traits help animals thrive in desert ecosystems. By solving these adaptation puzzles, you’ll also learn why desert species matter and what conditions must be preserved for them to survive, at the heart of conservation thinking.
