‘Invincible alliance’: Kim Jong-un hails Russia in New Year’s message

Kim Jong-un hailed the North Korea-Russia alliance as an “invincible” one in a New Year’s message, as reported by the state media on Thursday.

In the message, Kim also paid tribute to North Korean troops fighting abroad on Russia’s side against Ukraine and eulogised them “the greatest strength and pride and a strong pillar” of the country.

“As the whole country is enveloped in a festive atmosphere of greeting the new year, I all the more miss you, who are fighting bravely on the battlefields in the alien land even at this moment,” he said, according to KCNA.

“Be brave. Behind you are Pyongyang and Moscow,” the leader added.

As per experts’ analyses, North Korea’s deepening alliance with Russia is necessary for the country’s economy while allowing him to evade US and South Korean overtures for mutual dialogue.

Kim also talked about the overseas actions hoping to take place this year, reflecting “remarkable feats you will perform on the overseas battlefields.”

In the speech, Kim also praised North Koreans and their unrelenting efforts which brought “successes and phenomenal changes in 2025.”

Kim Jong-un celebrated New Year in Pyongyang that included patriotic songs, dances, and fireworks along with his daughter Ju Ae.

Some analysts view her as the frontrunner to become Kim’s successor in the future.
