MTDXB (Musical Theatre Dubai) Celebrates Four Years of Creativity, Community andCurtain Calls as They Bring the Classic Broadway Hit ‘GUYS AND DOLLS’ to the Stage in May
Dubai(News Desk):: What started as a small group of passionate performers looking for a creative outlet has grown into one of Dubai’s most successful artistic networks. This year,MTDXB Musical Theatre Dubai celebrates four years of bringing people together through a shared love of musical theatre performance and proves that Dubai’s grassroots arts scene is thriving.
Since its founding in 2021, MTDXB Musical Theatre Dubai has evolved into more than just a theatre group for adults – it has become a close-knit community where friendships have formed with people from all walks of life coming together to share the magic of live performance. “In a city as fast-paced as Dubai, it can sometimes be difficult to find a sense of belonging,” says Bethanie Mitchinson, one of the group’s co-founders. “But through MTDXB, we’ve created a space where people can connect, express themselves, and be part of something truly special.
The friendships and memories made here are just as important as the shows we create and perform.”
Over the past four years, the group has staged a series of productions showcasing local talent and giving performers a chance to step into the spotlight. With each show, audiences – and cast members – have grown, reflecting the increasing demand for live theatre in Dubai.
Rehearsals are currently underway for MTDXB’s ninth show. Their third full-scale musical boasts a talented cast of over 50 as well as an exhilarating 14-piece professional live band. The classic Broadway musical, Guys and Dolls, performing from 21-24 May, follows happy go-lucky Nathan Detroit as he evades marriage to his long-suffering fiancée Adelaide, while the smooth-talking, high-roller Sky Masterson unexpectedly falls head-over-heels for mission worker Sarah Brown.
Audiences will watch love, comedy, and charm unfold in 1950s New York in this immersive musical theatre experience featuring colourful characters, unforgettable songs and high energy dance numbers.
“We’re so excited to be celebrating four years of theatre, friendship, and creativity,” adds Director, Claire Bennett. “Guys and Dolls is a show about love, luck, and community – which feels fitting, because that’s exactly what this group has become for so many of us.”
Co-founder James Mitchinson added “Our shows have been blessed with such passion and commitment from the local community. With support from local spaces and businesses like Sunmarke School and KPS Interior Fit-Out, alongside many dedicated volunteers – both on, and off-stage, we’ve been able to, once again, create another professional-standard production.”
Performances will take place from 21-24 May at The Shyam Mankani Auditorium, Sunmarke School, JVT with
