In Nancy Guthrie’s case, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is taking a lead in investigating her disappearance.
But six months have passed, and frustration is boiling in the public in general and, reportedly, in the 84-year-old’s family over the investigation and how, so far, no suspect has been arrested.
With critics taking a potshot at Sheriff Chris Nanos over what they say is him botching the missing case, an uptick in pressure on the FBI to take a bigger role is occurring, an Axios report stated.
The federal authority, which is already working in an assisting capacity during the investigation, has reportedly been urged to take over the case.
“The FBI now may face pressure to take a bigger role,” an insider told Axios.
This comes after the Wall Street Journal investigation dug deeper into the case and uncovered a “trail of missteps” and a rift between the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department over the handling.
Despite the finger-pointing, Nancy’s family is still pinning hopes on the authorities and the wider public to help them find the 84-year-old.
“We are begging for help. We are desperate. We need someone to come forward. Someone knows something. Someone suspects something,” Savannah said in a recent post on Instagram.
She continued, “Perhaps they are angry or upset about being in this situation. There is a way out – to tell what you know. You can do so anonymously. The reward is available.”
“There is a way to end this situation and do the right thing… We will never stop looking for answers – and we will never stop looking for the light… Please. Bring her home.”
Nancy has been missing since Feb. 1 from her home near Tucson, Arizona.
