Al Ain Zoo Marks Debut Participation at IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi
Al Ain Zoo’s debut participation featured expert-led talks and insightful workshops engaging all Congress visitors
Abu Dhabi(News Desk):: Al Ain Zoo, one of the Middle East’s oldest and largest wildlife institutions, participated in the globally renowned IUCN World Conservation Congress. The event, held in the UAE for the first time in Abu Dhabi between 9 and 15 October, happens once every four years and brings together leading conservation experts from around the world. Al Ain Zoo’s participation meant its expert spokespeople were able to share its commitment to global conservation efforts and its vital role in advancing the UAE’s vision for a sustainable and biodiverse future.
Al Ain Zoo representatives took part in engaging talks, discussions, and workshops that spotlighted its ongoing conservation initiatives and raised awareness for critical matters. These included a review of the Dama Gazelle Conservation Strategy (2019–2028), managing the Arabian sand cat population through the world’s largest conservation center dedicated to this endangered species, case studies on treating threatened species, and the evolution of the Zoo’s African elephant conservation program.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress is recognized as a leading event for the world’s most dedicated experts, governments, organizations and NGOs. The congress addressed vital themes related to sustainability and conservation, emphasizing the need for collaborative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
The Congress hosted a number of leading experts, including Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment and a Member of the UAE Cabinet, and leaders from the United Nations, governments, and NGOs.
