EMIRATES GBR TAKE CRUCIAL WIN IN SAINT-TROPEZ AS RACE TO ABU DHABI HEATS UP
ABU DHABI(News Desk):: The battle to reach the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2025 Season Grand Final presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council intensified this weekend as Emirates GBR claimed victory at the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix | Saint-Tropez.
Emirates GBR secured the event victory following an impressive performance during Friday’s opening races, where strong Mistral winds delivered fast-paced, high-stakes action in front of sold-out crowds along the seawall in Saint-Tropez.
Following a severe weather warning issued for day two, SailGP made the decision to cancel all racing for the safety of athletes, support staff, and fans. With no further racing possible on Saturday, the results from day one stood – confirming Dylan Fletcher’s team as event winners.
The result moved Emirates GBR up to second place in the 2025 Season standings and in serious contention for a place in the winner-takes-all three-boat, USD$2million showdown at the 2025 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2025 Season Grand Final on November 29-30.
“It’s amazing to win,” Emirates GBR strategist Hannah Mills said.“We had a great first day. Obviously, we’re gutted for the fans that we couldn’t race again, but what a first day it was.“Anything can happen in the last three events, and to be in the mix is all we could have hoped for at the start of the season. We’re excited for the rest of it.”
The Black Foils, led by Pete Burling, finished second in Saint-Tropez and regained the overall season lead by just one point. Meanwhile, Tom Slingsby’s BONDS Flying Roos slipped to third in the rankings after placing fifth in the single day of racing.
The weekend also marked a milestone for Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank, who celebrated their best-ever result with a fourth-place finish, a strong sign of progress as they aim to finish the season on a high.
Red Bull Italy and driver Ruggero Tita – new additions to the Rolex SailGP Championship for Season 2025 – were also in a joyous mood having won their first ever fleet race with victory in the third outing on day one.Although weather disrupted the event, fans won’t have to wait long for the next chapter on the road to Abu Dhabi. The Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix makes its debut in Geneva on September 20–21, where old rivalries will reignite and every point will matter in the sprint to the Grand Final.
