Norway pledges over $9B in financial and military support to Ukraine by 2027

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store has announced a massive 85 billion Norwegian kroner (approx. $9.2 billion) support package for Ukraine, ensuring funding remains steady heading into the 2027 fiscal year.

Gahr Stoere and leaders from across the Nordic and Baltic region are visiting Kyiv on Sunday in a show of support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.

During a high-profile visit to Kyiv alongside Nordic and Baltic leaders, Prime Minister Store confirmed that the multi-year commitment will match previous annual allocations under Norway’s long-term Nansen Support Programme.

Approximately $7.5 billion (70 billion kroner) will go toward defense support, weapons, and military equipment to aid Ukraine’s ongoing resistance.

Roughly $1.6 billion (15 billion kroner) is designated for civilian assistance, reconstruction efforts, and humanitarian relief.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the funding, Store emphasized that continuous backing is vital not just for Kyiv, but for the continent at large.

“Supporting and rebuilding Ukraine is not assistance alone. It is an investment in Europe’s own security,” Store stated during his address in Kyiv.

The announcement comes as both nations navigate intensifying drone and missile campaigns targeting critical economic and infrastructure networks.

With broad cross-party support in the Norwegian Parliament, the ongoing funding guarantees that Oslo will remain one of Kyiv’s most steadfast bilateral backers.

In comments published on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kyiv had opened a “Pandora’s box” with its strikes on Russian economic targets and that Moscow would hit back at Ukraine’s “most sensitive economic sectors”.

Russia and Ukraine are both ramping up drone campaigns aiming to cripple each other’s economic infrastructure, often striking targets far beyond the frontlines of the war started by Moscow, as fighting on the battlefield grinds toward the 4-1/2-year mark.
