Police in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, are investigating the deaths of three people found inside a mobile home as relatives seek answers about what happened.
According to WRAL News, officers were called to a home on King Charles Court at about 10:45 AM on Monday, where they found Tracey Swann, her husband Kenny Swann and their adopted 20-year-old daughter, Mahala Scurlock, dead. Three dogs were also found inside the property.
Investigators are examining whether a generator was operating inside the home, potentially causing a build-up of carbon monoxide.
Police said the cause of death has not yet been determined and the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating.
Rocky Mount Police Chief Martin McCoy Sr. said officers do not suspect foul play.
“We’re looking at every angle,” McCoy said.
Family members told WRAL News that the home’s electricity had recently been disconnected over an unpaid utility bill.
Tracey Swann’s daughter, Krista Crisp, said her mother had been unable to pay a bill of more than $2,000 and had attempted to make partial payments.
Elizabeth Scurlock, the couple’s niece, remembered the family, saying: “They would give you the clothes off their back if they could. They meant — they mean the world to us.”
