The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority Equips Emergency Vehicles with Smart Cameras, to Enhance Emergency Response and Monitor Failure-to-Give-Way Violations.
AbuDhabi(News Desk)::The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority has equipped its firefighting, ambulance, and rescue vehicles with smart cameras as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the emergency response system, improve access efficiency to incident locations, and strengthen road safety standards .
This initiative aims to reduce response times by monitoring traffic congestion and field challenges, while identifying alternative routes for emergency vehicles in coordination with relevant entities. The system ensures rapid access to incident locations and efficient emergency handling, while also drivers’ awareness of the importance of giving way to raising emergency vehicles .
The smart camera system installed in firefighting, ambulance, and rescue vehicles is integrated with advanced systems within the operations room, enabling real-time monitoring of vehicle movements, supporting rapid decision-making, and facilitating the opening of emergency routes when necessary. This contributes to enhancing public road safety and strengthening the readiness of Abu Dhabi’s emergency response system .
The Authority confirmed that the smart cameras installed on emergency vehicles monitor and document violations that obstruct their movement through visual recordings directly linked to the operations room. This supports field deployment plans, enhances the efficiency of humanitarian emergency response missions, and helps ensure the safety of all road users .
The Authority further explained that failure to give way to emergency vehicles constitutes a serious traffic violation, monitored through cameras installed on emergency vehicles. The violation carries a fine of AED 3,000, vehicle impoundment for 30 days, and six traffic points. The Authority also emphasized that motorists may give way to emergency vehicles without fully crossing a red traffic signal, in a manner that maintains traffic compliance while ensuring the safety of all road users .
This initiative comes as part of the “Don’t Hesitate… Give Way Immediately” campaign, implemented in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and Integrated Transport Centre. The campaign aims to reinforce a culture of immediate response among drivers, promote responsible driving practices, and raise community awareness about the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles, emphasizing that every second can make a difference in saving lives.
